Youth Pride Network

Youth Pride Network (YPN) is a youth-led LGBTIQA+ advocacy organisation and one of the largest community groups operating within Western Australia. Falling under the remit of the Department of Communities, YPN is focused on creating a state where all LGBTIQA+ young people are fully accepted, included and celebrated by their community.

The Challenge

The vision of YPN continues to be clear. Ensure that no young LGBTIQA+ individuals face barriers when seeking essential services such as mental healthcare, general wellbeing, education and employment opportunities.

This vision was to be realised through an all encompassing digital experience that would connect communities, develop educational resources and demonstrate the impact of its advocacy efforts in improving the lives of LGBTIQA+ young people in Western Australia.

It was clear from the early discovery conversations that the website had to perform a number of roles and simultaneously speak to a broad cohort of audiences. These audience needs would require an intuitive information architecture and a logical structuring of content types to house all YPNs initiatives and ensure the organisation stayed true to its purpose and mission.

Our Solution

The result was a clean and seamless website experience that delivered on both its organisational and marketing objectives. Central to the experience was the Safe Space Map, a customised Google Map overlaid with smart content filters that enabled users to locate LGBTIQA+ communities and discover events in their local area.

A broad mix of content formats dictated a flexible and powerful CMS to underpin the experience. Policy submissions, State of Play (SOP) reports and other downloadable resources were paired with digital stickers, quizzes and podcasts, enabling high-levels of user accessibility and allowing for flexible administration for the YPN team.

As a community platform, it was essential that return visitation was built into the UX of the website. A persistent data capture functionality was combined with an always-on social media feed to boost search capability and support more people when looking for YPNs essential service offering.

The result is a living ecosystem of support, advocacy and advice for the LGBTQIA+ community of Western Australia and beyond.
